ORGIN: Native to Australia, Indonesia & Timor Islands.

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Taeniopygia guttata

OTHER COMMON NAMES: Spotted - Sided Finch, Chestnut- Eared Finch, Australian Zebra Finch, Timor Zebra Finch.

Zebra Finches are sexually dimorphic in their coloring, which means it is very easy to tell the gender apart. When young they all resemble females, at the age of 2-3 months their adult colors start to show. Females have more muted colors, dusty gray, "teardrop" stripe below their eyes, their beak is a duller orange. The males have a gray body with brownish gray back and wings & brown with white dots pattern on their flanks, bright orange cheeks, white stripe in between their beak & black stripe. Zebra Finches are highly energetic, curious & social. They form lifelong pairs & use their unique song to serenade their mates. As a pet it is recommended that they are always kept as pairs or small flocks; They thrive when in a flock/pair. As toys they love a swing, bells, ladders & mirrors! They are not a handleable bird, they are considered a songbird meant to bring joy through their beautiful melodies.
